Default Buying a 2nd hand SV650S?

My mate is looking at 2nd hand SVs. When I bought mine I really lucked in, plus I took along a mate more knowledgable than me about bikes in general.

So tapping into the org knowledge base:

Can you guys give me some pointers into pitfalls when buying an SV specifically?

My matewho is buying is fairly clued up but anything to help would be fab.

All the best

Scotty

Check for rust anywhere. Check the forks for any dinks, dents or corrosion (including the yokes). Check the brakes. Worn pads are an indication of irregular maintenance and could also suggest the callipers may not be in the best condition. Check the chain and sprockets, listen to the engine, check the electrics (indicators, brake light etc). There's an SV for sale on here. Seems like a good bike for the price.

Can happen to virtually any bike especially those not used regularly for long periods, say over winter for instance. Apparently having a full tank and adding 100ml of isopropyl alcohol before storage helps.

i think rust and corrosion says a lot because my bike has very little from minimal TLC. However my friends that sat outside for six months unattended is a sight for sore eyes. Mine sat out side every day for 4 years and it looks decent from five feet away. I don't think there is many specifics other than chain and sprocket condition tire wear brake pad wear. All these are things that can be solved its just needs to be factored into the price.
