The Yam triple will be either a direct replacement for the rapidly aging R6 (as a 675) or the FZ8 IL4 will be phased out.

Yamaha put so much R&D money into the curent M1/ R1 and the technology in the motor, they need to start getting payback on it. Hence why the Superten 1200 is a crossplane motor and its the only 'new' bike in the last 5 years

The R1 will always be a IL4 as its designed for racing and Yamaha don't really have factory teams anymore (the BSB R1's are a special designed by Shaun Muir's tuning team) and the WSB bikes are just a revision to the last factory bikes.

I was reading last weeks MCN just after I posted and it suggests it'll be 900cc.

XS 750 re born ?
Litre bikes id guess stay 4 cyl .
3 cyl will cut rev capability due to piston weight.
Teresa tricky balance with how much valve area you can fit in too.

If triples, then they'd have 120 cranks surely, crossplane may be the new buzzword for such arrangements, but it wouldn't be strictly accurate.

I await some better info on the new engines with interest.

If you read this weeks MCN it suggests it will be proper cross plane but with an additional slave piston in the sump to offset.

Or At least some degree of weight in the sump, if I get time ill scan the article in the week.

what is the point,we know the only way to go is with a 4 cylinder engine, wether in line or v4,3 cylinder only really works well with a 2 stroke, yer we know triumph are all in to triples, but with larger capacity you cant get them to rev,(longer stoke, piston speeds etc)and even triumph have said they cant/wont make a sporst bike with a triple, the 675 triumph works well now,but look how many owner were leff in the past with a lemon, and broken engines, although yamaha arnt triumph and may well get a small capacity triple to work well at first attempt, and what is a matter with the fz8,apart from its a capacity that very few people want to buy
