I got my bike back on Tuesday but still hadn't had a decent offer from the insurance. I had been fighting to get better than £960 for it, and today the claims company called to say that I was getting a further £415
The total offer is £1695 minus the £320 salvage cost for having the bike back.
So, now to see exactly what's up with the old girl and get her back on the road. The trouble I'm having so far is exactly what to do. I'll fix what needs doing to get it through the MOT this week (off for half term) but I don't know if I should then sell it as a winter hack (so taking off the trick bits), or keep it and cary on using it until she dies completely.
The sale price would be low as it's now Cat C, 11 years old and with 42k miles. But if I add it to the insurance I could get something newer.
I'll be researching what's for sale in the area next week and testing several to see what's out there.
Decisions, decisions.
Any thoughts?

You've had a good run with her, 42K is pretty good.

But then you won't worry about her too much if she was turned into a winter hack?

I dunno either

She's been fantastic. Never let me down in seven years. The only time I've been stuck was when I got a puncture in the front tyre. And she looked after me by letting it down slowly so I had the change to pull in safely.
There are so many reasons to keep it on the road but I don't think I'll be in a better position to get something else than I am now.
The Landy may be going this weekend too
All change!

If you decide to flog it as a (hack)

can you let me know,

I am looking to get something to test the waters with to see if I want to return to biking at all and just need something cheap and cheerful like to try it out on - Needs no trick bits

Many thanks

Great news, tricky choice...see what you could get with a sale and that extra cash and then make the decision...

Thanks fellas.
I'll keep you in mind if I do decide to sell.
The Landrover went today - a very sad moment having owned it since 1997 and rebuilding it in to my dream Landy. The guy came up from Surrey and drove it home on fasy A roads and motorways. I bet he was knackered!
So I can add a further £1000 to the insurance payout (we have already bought a Landrover replacement - a Chevy day van). This week I'll see what's around and take some test rides when the wind has died down. And get mine back on the road. Some parts are ordered already, and I'll check the forks over in the next day or two. I had contemplated a serious rebuild but for how it is used, its age, and mileage I can't justify the expence and time.
As the winter comes on I may be in quite a strong position with sales (I picked mine up with £1000 off seven years ago) and cash waiting. I'll keep using it until I see a replacement and take it from there.

(and this is my 1000th post )
