I am thinking[only thinking at this stage] of having a change. Now the next bike,if I buy one will be my last as I do try and keep them for a while ,current one ten years so a replacement would take me into my mid seventies with a bit of luck
The days of tear arsing the lanes have gone and I want comfort, economy, able to cruise at legal speed limits effortlessly, capability to carry a bit of camping gear all within a budget of £4500 [trade in /sale plus £3000] Deauville but it would be second hand or a new CB500F spring to mind the CB is naked and basic model but new with 2 year warranty. My current bike, Triumph Sprint 955i complete with luggage has been meticulously looked after and I have no qualms about going or doing anything with it as it ticks all my boxes. 50mpg and motorway speeds at less than half throttle or riding all day for 500 miles ache free with good weather protection Do I take the plunge and would, what I consider a downsize/grade be a bit drastic--------OR-------do I keep what I have and spend my £3000 keeping it in top condition and ride it or go for a smaller replacement but newer. I may gain a bit on mpg and possibly insurance but just wonder if going smaller is the answer. Just a muse on a boring day but what would you do? |

I think the dullville would not save you any perceived weight when moving the thing around and the CB500 would be a completely knackering test to go touring on.
In short I think both of these bikes would be massively worse than your current one.

If. you are chilling things down a little why not one of the smaller cruisers VN900 classic kawasaki with screen and panniers. nice relaxed ride, see the scenery , 200 miles to a tank.

put these three in order of priority
save money lighter / smaller to handle as you get older newer / lower mileage so it lasts you the next 10 years with little maintenance once we know what's most important, we can suggest other bikes, or suggest keeping your own |

Have you seen the CB500F up close? The last time I was in Chiswick Honda I had a bit of a look at the CBR500 (or whatever the faired version of the same bike is) and it looked like a bit of a toy, made the CBR600RR look like a big bike.
