hi guys,
today i had a little heart attack as when switching the bike on , the oil light came on and stayed . i then put the bike on stand and watched through the glass and the level was below low or L . i could not see it at all. i then switched it on and the light went off, it would have surly stayed on if low on oil , wouldn't it ? anyways i then asked my partner to come and check it while i centre the bike(standing on it). it was then showing as full. i guess based on that my oil is ok and the light came on because maybe my bike was parked for 3-4 days on its side is that happening to you guys as well( light comming on when on stand ) ? do you check the level by asking someone else to stand on it and you check it or just use rear stand ? |

Nope, normally do some sort of scary balancing act with me holding the bars with one hand whilst bending down to see the level. It will end in tears one day.

The oil light its a pressure switch trigger, not a volume sensor, that it's, that when the engine is not running, the oil pump is not running, there is no pressure, so the light's on. Perfectly normal, however, I suspect you just noticed it today. As long as the level is ok when the bike is vertical, and the oil light goes out when the engine starts you're cool

It should stay on for a second from the engine catching and revving up, it comes on (along with the low fuel light and neutral) when the ignition comes on, majority of bikes operate with the same circuitry. The only time it should be on is when there is a problem down there, if you want to check it quickly get a brick under the sidestand and act as a balance while checking

thanks very much .mine aslways it is on as soon as the ignition is on ( not bike) regrdless of bike position but goes off as soon as it is switched on, i guess it is normal based on the posts in here
the only time that it is going to be problem is if the light is on past when engine is on ? would it stay on if low pressure of low oil while on ? |

It would stay on if you have low pressure. But when it comes on the oil level is past critical and its already too late probably. On my old engine the oil went way below the L on the sight glass and the light never came on. The engine only lasted a year after that episode.
