Default Nuerosurgon/Neurology Specialist

I'm looking for an experienced specialist in neurology with a focus on arms, elbows and shoulders.

My current doctors aren't much use they don't seem to know what they are doing, so time to find someone that does. In short I believe I have done significant damage to my Ulnar nerve in my right arm, its actually very painful and looking at what symptoms I have its fits exactly what is going on with me.

So now I just need to find the right doctor for me that can actually do something about it, rather than just giving me highly additive painkillers. Which is what all the current doctors are doing.

Any suggestions on who to speak to?

Been there done that, no use. Hence I need someone to look at this who actually knows what they are doing. I have had this nearly three years, so i'm fed up and want a solution not more messing about.

don't get me started on quacks.. most are useless, over paid, over worked morons

demand a second opinion. don't take shizz from your doc. if they say what do you want us to do then say an MRI to start with then further tests to determine the cause of the problem. if they still refuse get them to write a letter stating that they are refusing you treatment than go straight to your MP and complain to them.

there is always nothing wrong till your dead, trust me it almost happened to me and if it were not for the fact that i demanded they send me for a check up i would be dead.

intrigued as to why you think its nerve damage (apart from comparing notes online)?

You've had this for three years so how many times have you been to see the doctors in this time?

have they told you what THEY think it is?

Becasue all the test I have showed the structures are intact and are working just fine, the doctor last week stated that its was probally being casued by some kind of nerve damage. I have seen quite a few times.

None of this answers the question I asked.

I dont know of any docs but I would search for the ones that look after sports club etc. They tend to be the moat experienced. Otherwise find one over the net that specialises in arm injuries

Well its so eaay to jump on a docotr an say they arent doing their job when they have procedures to follow. Find it whighly unlikely that for three years you have had this problem and they havent referred you to a specialist. You say he says its probably caused by nerve damage but hasnt referred you. Sorry but that doesnt add up as if he thought this he would refer you as all other avenues have been exhausted.

As far as im awarw there is no self referral to a neurologist. So either go private or demand to be referred.

Gah, I find doctors completely useless too. I'm lucky in that I don't have many health problems (touch wood), but when I do go, it only seems that 1 in 5 doctors actually listen. That minority are really good, they listen to you, then they help you. The majority of them see a minor affliction and just try to send you home ASAP. The amount of "see how it goes" comments ****es me off.

My Mrs has it worse though. She has had more health problems over the years. Here in Basingstoke the treatment for existing health problems is RADICALLY different to Southampton. It's ridiculous. In Southampton she sees different doctors and just gets prescribed painkiller. Here in Basingstoke, she gets sent for tests/scans etc. Standards are wildly out for whatever reason. Plus she has a nerve damage problem from a car crash many years ago, and she only gets prescribed ... wait for it ... ANTI-DEPRESSANTS. There is a link between a small dose of anti-depressants and a reduction in nerve related pain, but does she get given any other options? No. Just drugs.

Doctors words are not fact. They are often wrong. Not all doctors actually care. You're right to look for a specialist.
