Default SV650 rev issue and keep switching off

Hello All,
I have been riding my sv for around a month and have never experienced the issue I had today. Basically most of my riding is city riding so 30 to 50mph most of the time and around 15 miles per day

For the first time took it on highway and was going 70 mph for around 10 miles and then when slowed down due to traffic I put it in natural while cruising between cars just realising that the bike switched off. I then cranked the engine and noticed that the rev has dropped from 1.5 k to 200 or less and switch off again . again cranked and carried on but if I did close the throttle the bike rev will drop as almost there is something wrong
Any ideas what it can be ?

it was sorted after few mins and no issues now , well so far

Many thanks

yes and it looks as if it is ok
i need to ask a friend to help holding the bike and then test

today did another 50 miles and no issue. This happened only yesterday

by the way, i only look through the glass to see the level and wish there was dip stick , I hate the glass.

Any ideas what else it could have been?

btw, how often do you change your oil? mine looks black or sort of black brown , is that too dark and time to change ? I bought the bike a month ago and dealer said they have done a full service and have changed it but think he was lying otherwise it should have been bronze colorish for at least 2 3 month

also how do you check the quality of the oil, by this what i mean is, how do you touch it, to see if it is too thin which i think normally means time to change again . I think the only way is to drain it

Id be pretty confident thats a TPS issue.

Explains exactly what mine did, high revs for a while (motorway) slowed, and it turned off. It messed about for a few mins and then its fine again. Ive never done anything to resolve the issue and its not come back in about 4 years.

I had ear plugs in when mine switched off, so I didnt even know it was off until i let the clutch out to speed up again lol Strange experience to say the least

What bike have you got?

This will help.

i'll go out on a limb here and say its your tickover. the screw slowly makes an indent in the cam and then you get a notch the screw can sit on the ridge of the notch and be quite happy till all of a sudden it drops back into the notch at which point the bike revs drop and the bike cuts out coming to a stop. when adjusting the tickover always turn the throttle slightly so you dont make the indent bigger.

may i ask why you stick the bike in neutral while 'cruising between cars'. the only time the bike should be in neutral is at a stand still. never ever ever and i'll say it again never ever 'coast' out of gear as you have no traction and if you go for the brakes in haste you will be on the deck quicker than butter melting on hot toast.

Service tool (aka paper clip) time. You can ride with the tool in until it happen again if need be.

when the engine is at idle it should be roughly about 1200rpm.

this depends on the year of the SV as after k7 it has an auto idle.

easy to test if it has a notch. turn the idle screw out a baw hair while the bike is warm and idling. if the revs suddenly drop a fair bit then bingo you have your problem.
