... I'm after a multimeter - I'll only need it for occasional, bike related use - they seem to be available for any price from £5 up - is there a particular brand / model that people would go for, or do they all do pretty much the same thing? I don't want to spend more than I need to, but I'd like it to be fit for purpose.
Thanks in advance. |

don't know much about them but i've had a few cheap ones, they tend to be alright for occasional use but the leads don't seem to be heavy duty enough on the cheapo one's.
I invested in a draper one eventually for 30 odd quid and it works pretty nicely. |

All you will need is a volt meter, continuity tester and possibly an ohmmeter. Pretty much all of them will have those functions. Might be better to get one that takes a 9V battery rather than those small camera batteries.
If you won't be using it regularly, it makes no sense spending more than £10-£15 |

Cheap meter, get decent leads though. My dad is an electronics engineer, he uses the leads from his now dead multimeter from years ago, and a 5 quid meter form maplin.

Make sure it measures up to 100V AC, 20V DC, and measures DC voltage in 0.1V measurements. Ended up with a cheap one that only worked in 1V increments a while back, makes some diagnosis harder.
