Default Kwak Repair Rant

O.k so some of you know a few gears on my ZX-10R decided to go all big bang theory on me and shatter. Stripped the engine out and sent it off to repair...

So, over £730 later for the repairs and spares, and £100 in courier fees I got the engine back and fitted it. (without a jack, hoist or even an axle stand i might add )

It was when I came to fit the gear change lever onto the splined shaft I noticed this little beauty.

Apologies for the poor quality, apparently pixels and picture quality are not high up on the list of must-haves for my HTC.

Yep, it's not suppose to do that. Apparently a circlip and washer were missed off post repair. So I ring up and the bloke is very apologetic and agrees to post them there and then. This was thursday morning. So friday comes and goes, as does saturday and then finally yesterday with no sign of the bits. After a quick phone call I am told the bits were not sent as the washer is on back order from Japan, with an estimated delivery date of August 27th!!!

**** me I was annoyed. Complete lack of a phone call or anything on there part. Wish I hadn't stumped up the cash in the first place until i'd checked everything. Anyways, rant over.

Wow, sympathies from me. Nothing worse than paying the big bucks to have it done "properly" and then "er oops".
Hope its resolved sooner than that!

that's not cricket and i would be well hacked off at their sloppy work.

it's just a washer and a circlip and i'm quite sure that any one the right size and type will do the job. so no need to wait till August 27th.

sorry dude but if you doubt this simple bit, how much confidence do you have in the rest of their work.

Are you going to get back on the road by other means? If not get the slackers to re-ceheck their work on the rest of it.

Default Kwak Repair Rant

A ZX10 with a broken gearbox - well I never encountered one of those before.

NOT.

Perspective chums, perspective. Get the circlip on and get it running. IF IT DON't work right whine then.

What he said.

Most bike shops order all parts on a certain day and receive order either once a week, or like most, once every two weeks.
Could probably order them yourself and have them in a few days if you can't find them locally.

True but I can already hear 'Sorry mate you used aftermarket/non OEM parts so no, the work we did is not covered and the guarantee null and void.

Really? Cos that was the first time the bloke at Kawasaki UK had heard of/recorded this particular problem. He seemed very surprised if not a little unsympathetic.

and IF IT DON'T work right whine then is only o.k if you're still around to moan afterwards, still got no idea how the back didn't lock up.

And thats just 1 of the 5 components that shattered and were rattling around.

Nope they order parts every day. Next day delivery as long as you order by 1200. According to him there are no more in the UK but I begrudge doing my own legwork when it should have been done right in the first place. Maybe I am just a bitter and twisted old man..

I got your PM si but I see what you mean now, thats a crock of bull crap pal.
Be stern but bit the lip a bit for now, get it up and running then let all hell loose if its not 100%

Is this anything to do with that almighty clunk you used to get knocking it in?

Cheers Matt, well the circlip arrived today but much as I thought, the shaft isn't pulling out anywhere near enough to reveal the groove it should sit in. When the bloke rings me back I am just gonna let him deal with it.

With regards to the clunky first gear selection, apparently 'they all do that'. Seems to agree with what people on the ninja forum say but i am no longer confident it's the whole truth.

And for all those who are thinking 'why the **** is he moaning just fit it and get on with it'

Here is said shaft with said missing circlip groove.

et voila..

Bearing in mind there is supposed to also be a washer BEHIND this circlip....

Clearly, something's not right.
