What do we think? Good? Bad? I'm a bit torn. Be nice if there was a 'driving mode' to avoid social media parp from popping up and solely allowed sat-nav in a HUD type display - perfect for a bike because it saves the mounting nightmare. ![]() Does seem quite open to abuse from the less switched on drivers though... |

It's too easy to be doing something on Google Glass far more distracting than being on the phone and the police have no real way of proving if you were using it as intended (sat nav) or not so the easiest option, which I agree with, is to flat out ban it from being used in cars.
Can you imagine how many more SMIDSY accidents there would be if it were legal? |

I wouldn't mind a google glass visor... Assuming it wasn't actually made of glass.

It kinda comes back to the argument of cognitive processes, they made it illegal to use your phone in your hand, but having a conversation via a handsfree kit is still perfectly fine. I've been mid-phone-call on hands free when the traffic situation has changed quite drastically and I literally stop talking for a few seconds while I concentrate on what's going on (idiot drivers, someone has emergency stopped a few cars ahead, suddenly spotted a camera van which I might have spotted if I wasn't off in my imagination visualising whatever I'm talking about) and the other person is hanging on the other end of the line saying "hello? Are you still there?" = they can't see the traffic situation and adjust the conversation accordingly..
Something like the google specs (are they even out yet?) could be distracting if you tell it to navigate to a particular location, and it routes incorrectly or tries to take you a way you don't want - suddenly you're focussing on the HUD/trying to correct the problem, and your cognitive resources are leaning towards sorting that out, rather than what's going on further in your field of focus. Atleast when a satnav messes up there comes a point where you think "ah feck it I'll just sort it at the next red light or pull over in a second" because your amount of attention on the road is so dramatically reduced each time you look at the spack nav screen.. Another reason why I still use a map and compass to get where I'm going ![]()

They'd be people doing 85 down the motorway hogging the middle lane while watching porn or trying to catch up on the episode of Eastenders they missed.
It's bad enough already when you see idiots faffing around with their sat nav and not looking at the road at all.

In a way its a bit of a shame, there could be some really nifty applications to driving. But I of course can see that it should probably be banned.

yeah but the content is what matters, if it's relating to your driving experience and informing you of useful navigation info, speed, map data etc without totally obscuring your view then great, if it's youtube videos galore or reading/sending texts/emails then it's bloody ridiculous
Google ought to create a HUD projection system for a car screen or bike visor for navigation / driving info and nothing more
