Default Lads Mags cover up - opinions

The Co-op has decided that from 9th September the lads mags such as Nuts, Loaded and Zoo must have 'modesty bags' over the covers or they won't sell them. So what does everyone think. Are they just a bit of harmless fun or do they exploit women?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23486027

My personal view is that they don't bother me that much. The women who pose for them get paid a decent wage to do so.

If anything I am more offended by the women's mags like Now, New and Closer that are obsessed with which celebs have got fatter/thinner/had a nose job/gone on a heartbreak diet and therefore look better for looking like a rake.

I think it is a good thing, as I have two teenage sons and two daughters, I believe they give a false reality of what women look like and the wrong impression to girls who believe they need to be super skinny with big ( . )( . ), my daughter is 10 and already thinks she is fat because of the media/mags like these.

I watched a feminist and a a girl who'd posed for one of the mags being interviewed on the BBC this morning.

The feminist stated the magazines were exploiting the female form by having them on the cover and encouraging exploitation women etc etc. I can't remember the exact phrase she used.

The model had an excellent comeback in that if you took that viewpoint she could object to the naked torso's of men on Men's Health magazine as exploitation of men.

Men have admired beautiful women since Adam & Eve and women have done the same with looking at a good looking bloke, both naked, semi naked and fully clothed.

I know its not a direct parallel, but I don't see a great urgency to remove all the paintings with naked women & men hanging in art galleries because its exploiting their form. Oh no that's because its art, but surely it was the lads mag of the time?

My other bugbear is when watching the sport on TV from places like the Caribbean they show the crowd and it is busty pretty women in small bikinis and then big fat sun burnt beer bellied England supporters. Hardly fair for the girls watching at home.

Oh yeah, poor exploited Hugh Jackman too...

I think it's complete nonsense. They're already up and (mostly) out of reach of kids who are supposedly too young to read them, it's the parents' job to educate their children about certain aspects of life rather than those aspects of life be hidden from them. Some people work hard to keep themselves in a presentable form that pleases the eye and if a healthy body is something that needs to be covered up then something's a bit wrong.

Where does it end? Cover up the fitness mags? Those bitchy, bitter 'celeb' mags for ladies with over and underweight people on the front to be scrutinised for the comfort of others? No bikinis on the beach? No underwear or women in showers on TV ads? Mannequins only, is it? It's complete rubbish, it's not like it's porn or really offensive. It smacks of a ploy to get more customers through the door off the back of Cameron's internet crackdown proposition more than anything else.

Yes, I feel that is explotiting the male form, ban it

Or is because I don't have a six pack like his, which makes me feel inferior?

I hate those kind of womens mags, I have to be honest I think that they are far more insulting to my intelligence than the sort of Lads mags that guys read. Frankly I find it extremely distasteful that they fill these awful Women's publications up with stories of tragedy, knitting and diets.

I have to be honest, my biggest lament at the moment is the demise of Streetfighters magazine and that was often puerile, always rude and a fab read.

I think that this countries views on pornography is out of date, laws restricting internet porn, rules to cover up magazines, sex shops with blacked out windows... Frankly it is pathetic, maybe with more honesty and a little more openness, society would be a little better off.

I'd like to tell you that it's all been done in Photoshop and actually he's a bit flabby, but having given him a good squeeze at the match last week I am sorry to confirm that he really is that ripped.
