So on my way back from work last night and BAM! Next thing I know, I'm in a bloody bad tank slapper on the way into a sweeping corner from an overhill crest. So a little excursion through some roadside foliage later, the bike is back on the wrong side of the road but straightened out. All good I thought until I see the oncoming car. Another shhiiiiit! moment with some boot scraping cornering with a very unsettled bike, I'm back in the clear. Morale of this story, there isn't one. I'm just very likely to buy a steering damper now.
Just a bit of background on this road, it's bumpy with some loose gravel in places but I ride it pretty much everyday. Think I was just a bit over zealous with the speed on the crest and maybe a bit too stiff on the rear suspension. |

Never known a SV650 that warranted a steering damper yet. Your comment about speed and road surface is probably more akin to the slapper.

My boss got in a tank slapper on his ZX-10 which has a steering damper. He just took a loose grip and let it sort it self out.

Ive had bad speed wobble on the Sv, not a tank slapper though..
Apparently the trick is to just almost 'let go' of the handlebars, just let them do what they want and they'll straighten out

I let it sort itself out but it's worrying when heading in a straight line towards hedge rows and the like haha. I had to pick brambles out my radiator when I stopped to check for damage.

Picking brambles is preferable to picking stones out of your ar5e.
If you have a choice pick the softest place to land--fields are softer than concrete. |

Well done on the save!
SV's don't need dampers, only had 2 in 4 years and I was d!ck to cause them

Had a tank slapper last month at Oulton Park on a slightly greasy track.
