Hi all,
I’ve had issues with the battery recently and put it down to the short commute its having a few times a day (about 2 miles). When trying to start the bike it doesn’t have any power & I have to push it about ½ mile to the neatest hill to bump start it. I know I could walk to work but hey that’s sounds like to much effort! I’ve brought a “bike it” charger now and put it on every night so I don’t have to do this any more. I borrowed a multimeter today from someone at work and at lunch found that when the bike is off its 13.2v-ish about idling it is about 13.5v when revved to 5k rpm it jumps to about 17-18v! I realise this probably isn’t a good sign but not sure if this means it is the R/R or some wiring (not getting a chance to do anything until the weekend (wife permitting) Any other ideas what this might mean Thanks |

Output at 5000 rpm shouldn't be higher than 15v. This is controlled by the R/R.

The regulator err ...doesn't.
The battery is getting fried - which explains it's lack of ability.

Reg rec is knackered.
Have you tried it with the lights on? Chances are it won't be charging then, or as sid said the voltage has naffed the battery.

You bike 2 miles to work? Cycle my man! Be quicker than getting the leather on and riding.

Well to save money I told the wife I would swap my car for a bike.... Only way I could buy one! Normally I ride the back roads a few times a week, everyone at work laughs as they see me heading away from work yet beat them there! |

Right, got the r/r coming but when trying to take the back fairing off I stripped one if the screws!!
Not sure what to do, should I take a drill to it? Never done that before so any advice? |

It's the one under the passenger seat towards the front. It also has a rubber bit around it which makes things a bit difficult.
