Default Pointy racebike poor fuelling at high revs.

Hi All,

I'm now the owner of Berlin's old SV650 racebike:

Although we are getting on well together, having done a few race meets with pleasing results, there seems to be a slight issue at about 10,000rpm in the higher gears.

I noticed it at the last Aintree round, where having got from 20th up to 4/5th I was having what felt like a hesitation down the massive back straight, it was only slight but was happening around 9500-10,000rpm (I had time to look, Aintree's back straight is about 1/2 a mile long) and it just felt like it was holding back every couple of seconds or so.

During the lunchbreak, I had time to go through everything, it all looked ok, changed the plugs, checked the filter etc and nothing obvious.

Does anyone have any ideas? It does have an occasional Fi light, and the needle goes up to 7k with the ignition on and engine off.

Remap maybe?

Cheers
Paul

sounds like a normal SV as they typically start to run out of puff after 10k and at 10.5-11k hit the limiter which feels like a diesel car. apart from that i would check the valvetrain for spec and throttle bodies for balance.

might be worth throwing yorkie_chris or Berlin a PM.

Could be something as simple as a weak spark plug. I like to start with easy and cheap.
First thing I would do is a full throttle high rpm chop, then look at the plugs.

Thanks for the replies.

I tried new plugs at aintree. No change. Got to strip the pump & clean out the fuel rail & injectors at the weekend. Booked in at motrac next week for some dyno work and an ecu flash. Hopefully aim for some better results at the last meeting of the year!
