Default Rate these laptops

Need a new one. All I do is surf the web, take it in the garage, burn CD's and listen to music so don't really need anything fancy, but I also don't want to have to wait 5 years to do something simple like load up firefox. I don't really do computer jargon so can't work out between these two. Out of reputation I would have just gone for the Asus.

Asus

Toshiba

Yeah. To give you an idea how over priced I have similar one in work (entry level) for £250.

I can get you an A1 condition (as new) refurbished laptop with a 1 year warranty that is Acer i5, 4GB, 500GB for £360!

Too expensive. Not that I'm cheap, I tend to break them after 2 years so I only spend 300 quid. My last was a compaq that I had for just under two, before it met its end it was covered in paint, oil and general crap.

it was just for comparison purposes.

Asus are good to look at as are Acer. I would generally avoid Compaq/HP. Packard Bell are getting better since being taken over by Acer.

I'll be doing some buying these next 2 weeks so can let you know any decent deals I find?

Out of those two I'd buy the Toshiba

There's not much in it in terms of spec, but the toshiba has the following that the Asus hasnt...

DVD/CD re-writer
SD Memory Card reader

Those two I use a lot on my laptop, not having an SD card reader I'd find a complete PIA when it comes to pulling photos off my camera and gopro...

See I'm the opposite. I'd never buy anthing with a Packard Bell label on it based on my experience when I used to do desktop support. Packard Bells' were under spec'd over priced and complete PIA when it came to taking them apart to fit new graphics cards / memory etc.

I've had HP compaq stuff for years and generally I kill them before they go wrong of their own accord...
