Default Flat Tiger - battery issues

Why would my 2010 Tiger 1050 fail to crank?

It's been used for several weeks, plenty of miles, plenty of revs never failed to start.

Rode home today. Stopped at Tesco for some beers, started fine, one mile home, unloaded bike.

Five minutes later (nothing switched on, no key in ignition) the feckin thing won't even crank over! Won't bump start, just a slow, "oh no I'm not gonna go" grind.

Optimate hooked up and it's charging away.

Why? There's nothing loose, no fuses blown.

Pete mate, sometimes these things just "happen". Perhaps the battery has just cried enough?

Mmm. The original isn't known for its longevity. Planning a day out tomorrow, so hopefully, these things won't "happen" whilst miles from home!

New season, new battery?

I'm no expert but before you consider forking out for a new battery check you're getting the normal ~14V on the terminals when the engine is running in case it's not the battery but the electrics that feed it etc....

That's a job for tomorrow when the aforesaid mentions beers have taken and left their effect!

Cheers!

I'm 99% certain it's your battery, my bloody drz one gave up two weeks ago, only 18 months old, was out on it the previous week, went to start it following week and it was flat.

Check it's charging, if yes then the battery is suspect. Batteries usually fall away in performance as they age, but although it's hardly common sudden failures aren't unknown. I had an SV in that did exactly the same a few months back, battery was only a year or so old and bike in regular use.

sounds like youve got a bad connection,or need a new battery,BUT this seems to be a triumph trait with not starting,i know of a 1050 speed triple that flatterns the battery every now and then for no real apparent reason, dont forget never try to start the bike with a flat battery as it will damage the starter motor, and with triumphs history on sprag clutches this may also be damaged by slow cranking
