Unhappy New to SV and new to BIG bikes!

Hi there guys n girls.

As per heading, this is the place to come say hello and shove my way into the SV party!

Name is Simon, I'm 40, been riding for two years now; passed my DAS about 2 months ago. Prior to that, I was on a CBT and riding a Vara 125cc, best bike for us tall blokes. I loved that bike and we had some cool camping trips and rideouts during our time together, but the call for more horses was too strong, so here I am...

This hello would be a much more positive one with talk of joining you for meets and rideouts, but I just got in after my K3 650N not starting. I've only owned it a week too!

It started on the button every time, but tonight, I started fine, I ride it 50 yards to my security gate ready for the off and it conked out?!

It wants to start, battery seems strong etc, but the fuel light comes on (I have a FULL tank of 97 in there) Seeing as I've had the bike only a week and not even got a manual, I have no clue if I have lent on a pipe, bashed something (engine kill is not active as it turns over) or what.

I got a 3 month warranty with the bike from the shop I bought it, so ill call the guy in the morning, he seems a good honest guy, so I'm confident he will get it sorted for me.

In the meantime, is there something obvious I should take a look at?

I am also aware this should be in the TECH thread, but seeing as I'm a newbie, ill double post this (copy and paste) to get double exposure.

Many thanks to anyone that offers a rapid reply. Can you imagine how deflated I feel after getting my first BIG bike and having problems in less than a week?

Hi Mate, are you sure it is the fuel light coming on, or is it a red light with F1 flashing on the dash? Some of the injected bikes, (mine for example) have a habit of doing this, usually after an aborted start. My fix is to turn off the ignition, turn off the kill switch, turn the ignition back on followed by the kill switch....and then it starts. Seem to remember there was a thread on here recently discussing the same problem, and I must try and fix mine properly before one day it packs in for good!

No luck. I did as you described, but it still won't start. I'll have to be patient and wait for the morning and hope the guy in the shop won't get funny about coming to sort it out.

Thanks anyway Red.

Hi Clunk.

I tried putting the bike in Dealer mode as Red described in the TECH thread, but it knocked out the starter completely. I think I tried crossing the wrong wires, so new fuse in, it is back to square one, wants to start but won't fire.

I'm trying to call the Dealer, but his phone's been engaged for ages, sods law.

I'll keep you posted.

Hi Andrew.

I have no idea of the batteries age, but it's a Bosch and I trickle charged it last night to 100%

I gave the bike a try this morning and it started! I gunned it for 10 or so seconds, let the revs fall to idle and it cut out.

At that point, I gave up and called the Dealer to collect the bike.

See in the TECH thread for other comments and I have said about my problem.

Thanks for your input.

Nutter.
