Default Suzuki service plan

Suzuki are doing a three yr service plan 3 yrs for £500 /£15 a month is that a good deal .I was originally only planning on having the bike shop serviced for the first two yrs ( just to get it passed the warranty period ).i was wondering if I would be saving money on the plan because every thing seems pretty simple until the valves need checking

How many miles are you looking at doing? All of the services bar the 15,000 mile valve service are pretty easy to do yourself at home, whereas Suzuki would charge you at least £80 - £120 a pop (most of the money being in labour at about £60 an hour inc. VAT). The valve service will set you back £400 - £500 with Suzuki. So if you're going to be doing more than your first four services in this time and are getting it serviced by Suzuki for warranty reasons this would make financial sense.

i can guarantee there will be restrictions on the plan. it will be in the small print and say something along the lines of 3 year plan only good for basic servicing, all other servicing will carry a sir charge.

i'm going to go have a look....

ahh it seems to be a 3 times service over a 3 year period.

Service Plan Example 3 services over a 3 year period
New V-Strom 650 ABS at 3000 miles a year
Admin fee: £51.71
Initial payment: £114.68
22 monthly payments: £15.19
or one upfront payment: £500.57
(excludes initial 600 mile service)

that takes the bike to 9,600 miles and before the main service that includes the valves. i bet if your bike is older and the main service will be due it will be more for the plan.

by my calculations that makes each service £166. ermm no thanks. i could buy a lot of spares, oil and tools for that kinda cash.

Most people either don't want to or lack the ability to service their own bikes - just because you're happy to take a pair of Mole grips and a Meccano spanner to your own bike doesn't mean everyone is.
Just as well - gets me paid.

Well ain't you a rufty tufty biker? The average motorbicycle nowadays does sod all miles every year. This offer clearly won't suit you - doesn't mean the certainty of a prepaid service plan won't appeal to anyone. Did I mention the average bike does very few miles every year? Think about that.

Despite the near universally held view that all people that work with their hands are thieves and will steal your first born, those aren't bad prices for main dealer - sorry; stealer, everyone KNOWS they're dishonest - servicing
Whether you want to lash up your own bike at home as many do, or get it attended to by someone who knows what they're doing is your choice - no-one's obliged to pay this.

Suzuki have a dealer network, they service motorbikes, this plan is an effort to gain customers, keep shops open and people in work - just like anyone might when firms in their business are closing all around them - you may have noticed there's far far fewer bike shops around nowadays.

A realistic assessment of this would be to calculate for what circumstance this plan might be worthwhile - not just to bleat it won't suit you.

these service plans are being brought in because people cant afford the prices being charged so have to spread the costs. yes Sid your right that people who are inept at mechanical tasks should not service their own bikes but saying that do these same people have to be shafted up the back side because they cant and have to rely on experienced mechanics. the real looser in this whole thing is the mechanic who gets paid peanuts all in order to keep the showroom lights on.

some dealer showrooms are closing down due to some of them actually being rather shizz with poor customer services.

i have never seen so many bikes on the roads than there are at the moment so its not as though the sales are taking a tumble, in fact far from it.

and for the record i use my main Suzuki dealer when i CBA doing it. the main dealer up this way does half price labour costs during the winter months to keep trade flowing and they are never busier, so that tells you something.

Not good value. Ask for a better deal from the salesman.
They need to make a target and it's harder for them this time of year.

the trouble with bike dealer servicing is for every good dealer who services the bike properly with out fleecing you, there are three that will over charge you for work that they havent done, there are two biggish main dealer out my way,one i would trust, and the other has been proved to not do some servicing items at all during a service
