Default Did my engine seize up?

Hi guys im new to the forum couldnt find the section so im going to introduce myself in this thread, my name is Seb i live in london and recently i bought an sv project so i thought it would be a good idea to sighn up.

so well the bike was cheap but it was susposed to be running, a bit of fresh fuel and it fired up and went on reving like mad plus it had no oil in it as it all escaped because someone removed the clutch push rod. so well the bike started went reving for about 5 seconds more or less i shut it off as soon as i could and now it bearly cranks up, when i took a rachet and moved the engine by hand it seams fine and with the sparks in i can feel good compression when it comes to tdc, so now im not sure if maybe the starter motor went bad? or is the engine scrap now? or is it simply the battery as it reads 12.2 but before it was still turning over even on a lower charge like this, i know starting an engine with no oil is a bad idea in the first place plus high rpm, but would there be a damage after like 10 seconds?

im sorry for the long post hope some of you guys will take the time and read through, hopefully its all good as the plan is to strip it down to the frame and build it up with a slight twist so some of you might enjoy it

I would top up all fluids then do a compression test see what readings you get as you may or damaged your piston rings

Let us know what pressures you have when test is complete

will do that, but would i be able to get a good reading if the engine refuses to spin fast enough?

As bobblehead said, top up your fluids first. This will prevent any (or any more) damage being done.

Refit the clutch pushrod, and make sure the engine is water, fuel and oiltight before going any further.

Get the battery charged, spin it over, do a compression test.

You won't know if there is further damage til it starts firing or running.

SV engines are VERY susceptible to low oil being a cause of engine failure.

Bottom line check everything, spin it over with a charged battery and see where you are.

It's quite possible if you lost enough oil you've wrecked the engine, but i think this would take longer than the 5 seconds you say it was running for.

i will need to get a new compression tester as the one i have seams to be broken, i will charge the battery up put it on and do a vid, yes i mean it was on really high revs but it was literally getting it started panicking trying to find the swich hanging off the bike and shutting it off, i would imagine that after a short time like this nothing would happen but its just wierd how it was running shut it off and out of the sudden it just wnt turn over as it should

i dont know now the battery was on 12.5 tried to crank it and it went down straight to 12, i dont know what to think with this bike, i wish i had not started it without the oil now all i can think its the worst, i checked the oil filter and no signs of any metal so that's a good sign, hopefully its just lack of lubrication that causes is to spin this slow. maybe when i top it up move the engine around with a hand first and than try the starter,

Yes please top all fluids crank by hand then only when happy start it.... New battery is cheap fix do that first see if it runs...is the engine on the bike or test bed?
