How do I know if my chain is too slack or too tight?
Does anyone know the correct amount of play it should have? Sv650s SK3. Thanks |

On the side stand about 30mm +/- 5mm or so taken from the centre of the chain. If it looks slack then it probably needs tightening, if it sounds loud going round the front sprocket it's probably too tight; other than that just giving it a quick tug and eyeball when you lube it is all that's needed.

push the chain up and if it touches the rubber sliding block easily on the underside of the swingarm then tighten more till it JUST touches or very near it. do not over tighten a chain or you will wear your output shaft bearing at a rapid rate, stretch the chain quicker and have crap gear changes.

Also check the chain for tight spots, if you find some you will need to adjust the chain at the tightest point not the loosest.
