So my bruv bought a good condition CB but hated the suspension so we rebuilt the forks new better springs oil and back together. Got two new twin shocks for a fair price and now he has re sprayed it black looks nice until he decided to have the engine out and here is the problem.
He says front engine/frame bolt is stuck fast, nuts are off but bar will not budge he tried wd40 no effect he tried a blow lamp to heat it up but alas no joy. Like a fool I offered to go up Saturday and give him a hand. Ideas on what I should take please I have a better blow lamp and breaker bar and some hard core centre punches which I figure might do the job may be. The bolt prob not been off for twelve years and seems well corroded in. Does any one know a semi simple way to free them?? Any sain advice welcome Last edited by Moleman; 16-07-15 at 09:47 PM. |

I'm not sure how the bolt is mounted or whether it's possible, but I've removed badly corroded frame bolts by choking the frame in a gateway (or between two fixed points) and using a hydrolic bottle jack to apply pressure, just a thought.

Ah I have a bottle jack was for a truck that might be worth a try, will pack it as well. It's a bugger to get to but better now every thing else is out of the way

double nut on the top of the bolt and smack it with a big hammer. once it moves then attack the other end with a windygun to clear it.

Thats also what i would do. one nut down as far as it'll go, torque another 1 or 2 on top, get an impact gun on there, or a cordless drill/driver and slowly wind up the torque til it moves. It'll be slow at first, but it'll get there.
If that doesn't budge it, it's breaker bar and 1/2in extension bar and slowly up the torque so you don't snap something. Had to do this recently with a couple of XV535 viragos me and a friend bought to do up and pass on. Heat/GT85 or ACF50 will also help! |

Thanks for the advice I've dug the bottle jack out as there is a narrow ish stone gateway we could fit the bike in, tight but with a bit of care could do it. I've also put a selection of nuts I think might find a match out of them and a blow torch and breaker bar in the car ready for tomorrow.. One way or another that son of a gun is coming out ! ![]() Cheers for the replies peeps |

Result!
Bolt is out and totally fubar, gate way to the field was too narrow to fit the bike and he wouldn't let me hit the bike with the hammer I took and his mate said all the heat from a blow torch would trash the engine ! So he insisted on grinding off the bolt head and cutting off the other end where nut screwed on! Then he proceeded to start drilling it out, painful to watch... Just over two hours and many drill bits later I told him to go make a cup of tea and while gone I got a long bolt I spotted earlier plus my big hammer from my car and some lube I bought ( thanks for the advice on what works) and several good whacks with the old bolt as a punch and hey it was out.. Result.. He still doesn't know how I got it out and no damage.. So engine out and prepped for re painting then next week were putting it back in when I have got the plugs changed doing oil and filter and rebuilding the bike back up. Then fitting his new braded hoses which is the only part I'm not looking forward to as I never have any luck bleeding braded hoses never quite mastered it but still he lives in a lovely part of Darby not far from Matlock and views from his man cave are great ![]() Again thanks to everyone who offered good advice cheers guys ![]() Last edited by Moleman; 18-07-15 at 08:07 PM. |

He wouldn't let you hit it with a hammer? Has he never seen a proper mechanic working lol
I've ended up braying engine bolts out with a sledgehammer before, over several hours with it going a few thou at a time.
