I cancelled the insurance on my old CB500 when I sold it last month. It was £87 per year. I was charged £35 admin fee and the call cost over £2.50 on an 0844 number, which means they are returning about eleven quid!
Thieving gits. Hastings direct!

I was with them, when it came to renewal time they hassled me for ages even though I had gone else where, finally I had enough and called them to say I have gone else where, guy on the phone "why didn't you call us for a better price?", my reply "why didn't you give me your best price at renewal time instead of trying to rip me off?", he mumbled something and then hung up, never again.

I haggle on the admin fees.

Which? Has an interesting report on this subject this month.

I'm going to ensure I go with a company who charge the least or nothing at all if I make changes online.

With my old Suzi triple, I did my insurance through Footman James for about 15 years but changed to Carole Nash because they were cheaper for identical cover. The SV is only about £25 per year more than my old bike. Mind you, I am an old fart so that helps keep the price down

Insurance this year is more misleading than ever.

My renewal came through £90 plus legal cover plus admin fee (ie £150 all in). I said I'm not paying an admin fee as that's more for nothing to which their reply was along the lines of tough, see ta next week.

So, off I went comparing. Best quote online £90 plus legal cover, buy now? So I click on the buy button and the quote morphs into £120 plus legal. What??? £30 increase, where from? Arrangement fee.

Could get anyone to drop this arrangement, so went back to the renewal.

I'm now limbering up to bend over next year.

Found on their website:
Customer services

Call 0800 035 4801 or 0333 321 9801 from mobiles.

Then just ask to be redirected. Its what I always do. I don't phone 0844 numbers, only free phone or standard numbers. All.companies have one, you just need to look around.

You will always get different prices if you phone or do it on-line don't use a quote reference though because your more likely to still get the charge what ever it may be. Probably best to re-do the quote from the start on the phone.

Normally my quote is my quote. I have never had any extra fees on top. Not sure if I normally get legal cover to be honest though so maybe something to do with that?
