Default What your choice of TV watching says about you

Following a pub conversation this weekend, I'm interested to get a wider view from the Org.

The gist is, what do we watch on TV and what does this say about our personality?

This came about when a mate was moaning his wife watches hours of Eastenders, Coronation Street, Cash In The Attic, Jeremy Kyle etc but never anything intellectual or challenging and he has come to the conclusion that she's the least cultured person he knows (and yes, I did say he married her!?)

So if you list your top 5-7 shows, your real favourites, the ones you never miss, the ones you watch on catch up, and also a couple of shows you always switch off as you can't stand them what do you think they say about the type of person you are?

When the topic of TV watching came up in my last company, jaws hit the floor when I said I watched 2 hours per week.

Only things I watch now are MotoGP and University Challenge (I like quizs but not the puerile ones). Thinking about it, I've not watched University Challenge for some time - boot camp on Monday nights and I've not set it to record.

Its hard to find anything really worth watching nowadays. Very little in the way of challenging tv and i dont really go out the way to watch anything. I do loke the spate of property programmes like Grand Designs, George Clarkes Amazing spaces and Location (Mainly for my crush on Kirstie!!), and anything car/mechanical based. I am guilty of watching soaps on occasion, but not regularly. At weekends when im with my better half, usually E4 is the default with the never ending re runs of BBT, and if shes in control, ITVBe (Lord help me!)

But as i say, i rarely go out of my way to watch anything. The TV will be on in the background if im doing anything else just depends on the channel.

I'll watch mostly sport on TV - this is on the upstairs set as the wife hates it

She loves things like CSI and Holby, but together we have recently watched:
Orange is the New Black
Peaky Blinders
Defiance
Dark Matter
Hemlock Grove
Gogglebox
Black Sails - working through now that we have the whole season recorded!

Stuff that gets an automatic turn off - Eastenders, any reality show, any wannabe starmaker show

I am in this camp - I don't watch much television at all. My wife watches quite a bit of on-demand stuff but I am usually doing something else and not paying attention to it or even in the same room. We are watching Game of Thrones at the moment (maybe 2-4 episodes a week) but with regards to normal TV - I think I watched half an episode of QI last week and that was about it...!

Moto GP, WSB, BSB I'll never miss any of it (FP, qualifying warm up etc.).

Wheeler Dealers or River Monsters I'll record and watch at some point when I'm bored.

Speedway or Futurama if they're on.

Judge Judy! I'm a 29 old guy, and Ive been watching it since uni. My mates rip me for it but whatever, they don't get the awesomness. She is a super human lie detecting machine, and dissects cases like a work of art. The moronic plaintiffs and defendants add great entertainment too.

Documentaries in general make for a great viewing, and I've never got people who don't watch any. Favourite running documentaries are air crash investigation and FBI files. One off's too many to list.

Of course fictional shows have their place. Personally I think soaps are a complete waste of time. Some examples of great shows in my book would be breaking bad, true detective, game of thrones to name a few. I highly recommend narcos at the moment to anybody who has netflix. Non fictional/fictional show about Pablo Escobar and the columbian drug cartels. Simply awesome, you have to see for yourself.

Oh and can't forget comedy shows of course when you don't want anything too heavy. Seinfeld/old school simpsons/south park/Ali G/mock the week when Frankie Boyle was on, etc. Minus points to anybody who thinks Family Guy is any good.
