well normally when the sv got low on fuel it used to start flashing the fuel light and after a while it would go onto not flashing anymore and stayed on like a light
well now that does not happen , what happens is the fuel light will come on like a light for like a minute or so then goes back off again , then some time later it will come on again for like a minute then goes back off again i'm thinking its a fuel sender fault but the problem is i can't find one for a 2005 sv650 all i can seem to find are for the carb model sv's if anyone can help please let me know thanks |

Before you start to replace bits do a little trouble shooting first. Trace the sender unit wiring to the block where it connects into the loom and make sure it's clean and tight. Sounds obvious but my Curvy ran out of fuel once after this block was left unconnected after the tank went back on following some maintenance. As yours sounds sporadic it may be a loose or dirty connection and for the price of a can of electrical contact cleaner it's a simple check for peace of mind before you order parts.

I am no expert but I think the fuel pump assembly has two thermisters to provide the fuel level warning. One to give the flashing light and one to give the steady light. Sounds like the thermister which gives the switch for the flashing light on your bike is defective.
The cheapest way of sorting it would probably be to buy a whole fuel pump assembly from a breaker (there are some on e bay) which would hopefully include the thermisters. I apologise now if this is duff gen. I have not had the pleasure of taking mine apart yet so hopefully someone else will be able to confirm. |

Agree, it is just as likely to be a connection problem.

Aren't curvey & pointy different?
One flashes then solid while the other vice versa ?

i know someone else who has a sk6 model (pointy) and the fuel light works perfect on his (does the flashing warning and them the solid warning) so must be defective

Check and clean the connections. Changing the sender is a pig of a job
sent with all the fury of a clogged drain!!

I have an 05.
The light comes on fairly early (5 litres left) but does not flash. It will go out with a good right turn or a bit of progress then come back on when I'm being sensible again! I don't push it after that (20-30 miles) as I've had to push it, to the petrol station... uphill, in summer. Never again!
