I am looking to fit my SV with a USB port. I have never handled electrics before. I have a basic understanding of what to do but can any one give me some pointers?
I am mainly concerned with getting the wiring from the front, under the fairing and onto the battery. should I take the fairing off to do this? what is the proper way to have the wires on the battery? red - red, black - black of course but should they be under or over any thing in particular? |

No need to remove any fairings, I've got my Tomtom charging point hooked up to the front of my pointy.
There's cable guides down the left hand side of the bike as you sit on it on the frame under the tank just run the cabling following the loom in there then you should be able to poke it through the gap into where the battery sits. Just make sure you unhook the black wire first then the red, hook up the ends from your USB cable then connect the red lead back to the battery first then black. I managed to do this with the tank balancing on my head at the time because I couldn't find anything to prop it up with so you'll be fine! Last edited by tom_e; 09-12-15 at 04:12 PM. |

If Bibio has any left, buy one of his electrical accessory gizmos. One wire on the positive terminal, and one on the negative terminal of the battery and there's a connection to the brake light switch. Once you'd done this, then you have 3 terminals to hook up 3 devices to.
All you need to do is crimp on the bullet connectors to your usb socket and connect the red to red, and black to black wires into the gizmo. Lift the tank to run the cable through. The advantage of the Gizmo is that its only on, when the ignition is on, plus its fused.

PM Bibio for an electrical gizmo. You have to have a USB socket on an accessory powered relay (bibio's electrical gizmo) or it will drain the battery whilst not running. I found an easy solution was to put the USB socket under the pillion seat, and run a USB cable to the front, most of the cheap USB sockets aren't waterproof and from what research I did, none are waterproof when something is plugged in.
