Default Possible Undocumented Issue with SFV650 Gladius

Today I took my bike in to get the 2nd R/R recall unit installed. Rode off with no problems. Did some running around, maybe 20 miles or so, everything still fine UNTIL!

The wind picked up big-time, enough to push my bike around on the freeway, a bit unnerving. Approaching an overpass brings on gusts that will about throw you out of your lane, pretty scary.

My off-ramp comes up, I get off the freeway, go a little ways and get in a turn lane and waiting in traffic for the green, and then it happened. Suddenly a Red Light came on the instrument panel, top left (FI), which I figured must be "Fuel Injection" related, and the bike began surging and running really rough. The first thought was that somehow the mechanic screwed up something on my bike.

Thankfully I made it home and pulled into my garage, and turned the bike off. I then restarted it, and the light did not come back on, and the bike is running as it should.

So here's my thought on it right now. I'm thinking it's some kind of flaw in the way this bike reads its sensors, and it could not handle winds this strong and with very strong gusts, and it threw the FI out of proper range and messed it up temporarily. Thoughts?

Search this forum for the dealer mode tool (aka paper clip) and the run the bike until it comes up again. You'll get a code which will help you find the problem.

OK, thanks, that's great advice. I'm wondering if now that the light is out and it's running right, would a code still be there, or do I have to get it while the issue is occurring?

It'll usually save the last error code so it should still flash up.

Thanks, tom_e, I put it in "Dealer Mode", and the code is "c00", which means there's no problem. The manual says that it has a memory as you have also for codes, so what's up? This is very confusing; maybe just a fluke caused by the wind, but even that sounds far fetched. I don't know what to make of it.

I highly doubt the wind caused an error, unless the dealer has left a sensor partially connected - probably something around the airbox/connected to the airbox - on my SV there are at least 4 electrical connections for various things that would cause errors if disconnected.

Might be worth a quick look?

Yeah, I have a good look there, and I'm also going to notify the shop that did the R/R swap.

All the guy did was swap the R/R, which is just a matter of removing that side's radiator shroud, two screws and a plug to swap out the R/R.

Is there a tilt sensor, and if so, would the lateral G have kicked it off?

That probably would have just straight knocked the engine out.

A little flaw which has killed people who've had slides which have then turned into full violent highsides.

Oops.
