Unhappy New SV owner - Exhaust too loud

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum.

I can't really find the answer, seems everyone is after a loud exhaust when I'm after an exhaust that's loud enough to improve my safety but not loud enough to annoy neighbours at 6am!

I bought a nice 04 SV and it came with a scorpion exhaust, however there was no baffle fitted or given to me. It's way too loud, louder than my mates RSV4 apparently. I'm deaf when I get off the bike - although I don't have the best lid.

My question is what you would advise me to do;

I can get a baffle off of ebay - is it really going to cut the noise down to acceptable levels for that time in the morning?

I can buy a new slip on that's less noisey but still keeps me safe and sounds good...

Or, I can just fit the stock exhaust which I think looks a little ugly, but then again I can get it cheap off of ebay - but is it loud enough to keep me safe out there?

I haven't heard any SVs other than mine, so I'm having difficulty gauging what to do. But even the other bikers at work say it's loud, perhaps illegal on the road.

Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Lone

Try the baffle. Which Scorpion exhaust is it on there? If it's a short one it may be the aggressive pitch that's sounding loud rather than the actual db level. The longer the can, the lower the tone in general although they can still be quite loud.

If the baffle is affordable then that'd be my first choice to try.

I have a Scorpion Red Serket Parallel. The baffle makes quite a difference.

It isn't that much louder with it out if the revs are kept down below about 3,500 so I just bimble out in the mornings and wait before I open it up.

It's the short one, this is my bike:

there's a couple of baffles I've found on ebay, don't want to post them though in case it goes against your advertising policy. they're around 30 pounds for a universal and 40 pounds for the specific baffle.

Looks like the Carbine which is described by Scorpion as "A compact version of the Factory system. Shorter, lighter and more potent, Carbine is the sawn off shotgun of the Scorpion range aimed at the more radical rider."

Which suggests it might sound slightly aggressive... especially with baffle out. I'd try it with the baffle, for £40 rather than spend out a lot more on a whole new end can. Unless you're convinced you want somehting with a deeper tone or a longer can for aesthetic reasons.

I'd get a full length can if I were you. A stubby like that will always be loud

Baffle will most likely be a wasted investment, Carbines are still quite rough with the baffle in.

Also don't kid yourself with safety, a driver who is not looking certainly wont be listening for you in their insulated cage so get what is best for you and go quiet

I've already got earplugs, I do not want to annoy my neighbours at around 6am, this is my only mode of transport.

I like to hear the engine anyway, but to be deafened with it is silly.
