Hey all
I got caught out in torrential rain on Wednesday night, about half an hour in it (it really was a downpour). The next day I noticed (or started to notice) a buzzing sound coming from the tank. It's not overly loud but audible with the engine sound. It's not vibration related as far as I can tell. I'm guessing fuel pump. Has anyone else had this issue or is it normal and I've only just started noticing it? I don't recall my other SV1000 or SV650 doing this in the past. Thanks in advance for any info

Rain then the noise? I'm wondering if you have a load of water either in the tank or in your electrics causing the fuel pump to buzz either because there is water actually in the tank or water interfering with the electrical supply to the pump?
I'd drain the tank entirely and put a heater close to the bike to dry it out for a day or two then see how it is with fresh fuel. Just guessing based on your posting - the above may change of course if I was actually in front of the bike. |

Nah, no ingress in there, the bike's in exceptional condition. Fire your bike up and stick your ear right on the fuel cap, see if you can hear a buzzing.

Mine is very quiet coz it's got carbs.....
There was a guy who posted on here that the seals on his fuel cap leaked fuel, so if fuel can get out in some cases, I figure that a torrential downpour could result in water in there. How do you know there is no ingress? |

The brown fuel pump connector is quite open to water through the hole in the frame by the seat on my 650 might be worth pulling it apart and just making sure it's not shorting.

I'll have a check tomorrow but I'm pretty positive it's not ingress (I stand to be corrected though!) Blapper, I noticed yours was a curvy after I typed that, but then figured that even carbed bikes have fuel pumps, unless the curvy's run on gravity feed?!
Tom, the fuel pump connector, is it in the same position on a 650 as a 1000?
