Hi
As my first post after a while lurking, thought I'd share a problem I haven't fixed yet. Basically, the low beam doesn't work, but I have no idea why. The bike is a 2004 SV 650S and the bulbs are fine, the fuse is complete, and the switch works - all tested with a multimeter - so why doesn't my low beam work? I'm assuming a flaw in the loom, but is that rare? Have I missed anything? To add context, the hi beam works ok - and this suggests the loom to the switch is working well. Anyone got any hints? Got a feeling this is one of those problems! Hope you guys can help! Oli |

I am dreadful with electrics... but have you located and tested whatever it is that makes it come on when the ignition is turned?

Have you got the connector on the bulb the right way up?
The horizontal centre connector is the low beam, some connector blocks can be stuck on upside down. |

White connector block in the nose of the fairing might be corroded as the screen has a habit of funneling all the water down into it, or possibly a problem with wiring around the ignition.
Most likely the connector block. I had the same.

Thank you all for the suggestions.
I gave up when it went dark, but am going to run a check alone the loom tomorrow. I had an idea it might be corrosion, I've had that happen on other bikes. I've not yet found the white connector block, but I'm sure I will. |

Well, that was easier than I thought!
Two bolts holding the nose cone removed, two Allen bolts from the side of the fairing removed, and twist one side of the fairing around the handlebar and you get full access to the block. Undid the block and yes, it was full of rust. Sprayed it with WD-40 and scraped it a little, plugged it back together, and my lights worked! Back on the road within 30 mins - Thanks guys! |

I'd recommend going through it with a small electrics screwdriver wrapped in wet and dry and scouring the surfaces of the pins and then twisting them very slightly so they locate tighter in the corresponding block. Also, wrapping the whole lot in something water tight. I used and old inner tube section (put on before I fixed it back together then...) slid over the block with a cable tie each end to keep future water from being funneled down the screen into it again.

I was too quick to post earlier.
I decided to go for a spin to test it, only to find the starter button now doesn't work! Unfortunately it then started raining so besides having enough time to work out it was either the button or the side stand, not had a chance to do anymore.
