Curvy engine temp

Just a quick question... does anyone here with a curvy know what the engine temperature is supposed to reach as the fan cuts In? I'm not having any cooling issues and fan cuts in and out ok. But as a curvy isn't blessed with a temp gauge I thought I might give the radiator/thermostat housing a check with one of those Laser temp checking gizmos.

the manual says that the fan thermo-switch should change from OFF to ON at approx 96°C and change back from ON to OFF at 91°C.

They recommend testing it in a pot of oil using a thermometer and a multimeter.

Thanks for the reply, I have no real reason to test the thermostat as the fan only ever comes on after it's been idling for about 10 minutes, I plan to point the laser thermometer at the radiator header tank and the thermostat just as the fan kicks in, if it's at the recommended temperature or damned close I'll probably leave the actual thermostat alone.

I have a cheap Temp sensor LCD on my bars. Sensor attached to Thermostat switch @ the rad. My fan comes on around 95 Deg C and my average running temps depending on the ambient temp of the day is between 50/60 Deg C @ 60/70 mph air-cooling.

If left idling to test fan once it's kicked in and out it usually holds the engine around 82 Deg C which is the average Thermostat opening temp.

Cool, excuse the pun! How exactly did you attach the temp sensor to the Thermostat switch? Did you have to wire it in or attach it in some other way? Cheers.

The temp gauge has a single wire probe so nothing fancy needed. I just threaded it to the Fan switch at the Rad, pulled back the rubber cover and then used a tie-wrap to hold it in place and then cover with the rubber cover. I just used a couple of small tie-wraps to lock the Gauge onto the bars so easy to remove if ever needed

Seems like a good way to keep an eye on temps, dirt cheap too.

I think at least a year or more. I think they are the AG13 type. The unit is not really waterproof so consider coating it in something clear.

Mine's been on a couple of years but comes and goes now but usually works after a few miles. It may need taking off and the battery replacing and cleaning the battery contacts/holder but they are cheap to replace if it has gone.

Thanks for that, I don't use my bike at all in the wet tbh, my days of being soaked through are well 'n' truly over so the gauge being waterproof isn't really an issue.
I think I'll buy one and fab up some kind of bracket/ recess for it. Cheers.

I don't think the fan on my AL7 has ever turned on, despite having a perforated guard in front of radiator reducing the airflow, the temp gauge is rock steady.
