Default This has almost certainly been done before, but...

I was playing with a broken gear lever this evening, and found that you can get a really nice, easy result by drilling a hole, tapping a thread for an M8 nut, taking the rubber part from the original tip (and binning the broken off bit that usually goes through the middle) and simply sticking the bolt through the rubber (it's a nice tight fit) and screwing it into the lever. Much neater than the nut-and-bolt method that usually gets used, and it won't interfere with the gear lnkage either.

No exactly a work of genius, but I thought it might be worth mentioning for other serial gear-lever breakers.

I've got the nut-and-bolt on just now (with a soft alloy bolt so that if it drops again, it'll definately not break the lever) , but the tapped lever just looks so much nicer... I'm on the lookout for an allen-headed bolt the right size now, it'll basically look as new after that. Delighted! But now I need to find the tip off gear lever #2, which I left in the street after it got broken off
