In summary: The fact that less people are being breathalised has nothing to do with the increase in people drink driving Rather than increasing this we should have more cameras (Can someone please explain how secret camera's are going to catch these people?) I have never drunk and drove in my life, and yet the saftey brigade are going to make me breath into a tube each time I get into the car before it will start. Way to make an honest guy feel like a criminal! Why Not Instead: Increase the number of tests to make people afraid of being caught again? Fit these breathing tubes to convicted drink drivers cars for a fixed length of time? So by the end of it it's second nature not to do it! Make the penaties harsher - if your caught twice bye bye license for good? I know of (friend of brother in laws) who got caught and had to do an alcohol saftey course. He did this. he was caught again. He did another course ('cause it obviously worked so well...). At the end of the course just before they handed him his license back they asked so are you going to do it again? His reponse 'yes'. There response to that: Here's your license. ![]() Sorry needed a bit of a rant there... Stu |

They already use them in the states and it's been reported that the hardcore drink drivers are just getting someone else to blow in the tube, or end leaving the car running!!
![]() I can't see how it can stop a pair of bellows and some duct tape either! |

I think lowering the limit would be the best solution. I agree with the statement that the limit is ambiguous.
I strongly disagree with the idea of alcolock. We have too few police on the roads as it is, and alcolock would just give the government an excuse to thin their numbers still further. |

Ok from my point of view. The plans for the machine that they stick in the car were aimed at people that had already been banned for drink driving, and would have to have it fitted to their new car as part of the ruling. I feel it is an important part of policing and fit it in with all my other jobs, it does not take long from roadside stop to putting them in a cell.
The powers i have at this time is sufficent for what i need and lowering the limit from 80...well you can be over that easily on one drink anyhow. regards |

As I said - I have nothing against sticking the machine into people convicted of drink driving. It's the whole this should be done to everybody that I don't like.
I would just like more police in cars that can get these people off the street... Stu |

Great idea but how does the system know that it's the driver blowing into the tube
