Default Elephant rally 2005

I am going to the Elephant rally January 2005. It is myself and a mate going also maybe a few of Bartyboys mates. We are doing it for charity, an eyesight condition, retina something (sorry just can't remember ). We are looking to leave on the wednesday 26th and return the following wednesday 2nd.

If you look on the RAC route planner website it makes the journey to be around 735 miles from central London via Dover on to Passau each way.

My mate is using a Honda SLR 650 and I will be using a DR350, both of these will sit on the motorway at 70mph. As temperatures are quite low I'm not sure if sitting at a ton will so comfortable. The campsite can expect temperatures of 0 'C to -10 'C !!!

Go on, get yourself some thermals and come along. If you want to do it for charity I shall find the exact charity and how that will work.

just found out it's the British Retinitis Pigmentosa Society (BRPS)

I'm interested in doing this, but can't commit to anything that far in advance, just yet.

Has he got around to buying a buy "rickman" style faring yet?

How about you? don't fancy a quick blast to the Austian border?

Tell him I'll probably give him a buzz in a few weeks as I understand how we are planning to do it and have a few more concrete details.

Hmm must get around to sorting out my seat as otherwise it'll cut me in half

I won't lie, it is going to be quite cold and there is snow on the ground. I'm going on my DR350 as I don't want to risk the SV on ice etc.

that said the roads should be fairly clear, they have to put up with kind of weather every year, not like here in the UK where a single flake sends us into chaos.

Speed is also not of the essence. Get there in one piece, drink, eat and make merry, then come back, older and wiser!
