Can anyone tell me what improvements to expect in power, I have a "FUEL" can and I'm thinking of an air filter ( K&N) etc. Dynojet possibly if needed and some dyno work as FW Developments is just up the road. Also will i notice the difference. many thanks peeps

Never heard of Fuel, so can't say. A noisy can with air filter and proper dyno setup (essential) should give you around 4-7bhp extra. You really want the ignition advancer as well if you don't have it, see the JHS Racing site.

The BMC Race RS air filter is a far free-er flowing filter than the K&N, harder to find though, but I'd definately recommend it over the K&N. (though I'm using it with a full system)
No slip-on for an SV will add much power, unfortunately. That 4-7bhp is optimistic I think, assuming we're talking rear wheel and not crank... That's in the high end for a race system, never mind end can. Persnally I'd say 1-4bhp, depending on how good the can is. It will lengthen your peak power a bit though, which makes the power easier to use. If you're looking for power then can, filter and DJ kit is an expensive way of going about it- You're talking a parts investment of around £200 minimum plus dyno time, for probably a couple of horsepower top. Slip-ons are really for noise and looks, not power. I'd say don't get the Stage 1 DJ kit either, it gives you very little for the money. Their Stage 1&3 kit represents much better value, it's more expensive but includes more bits and does a better job. I'd look at the K3 cam swap instead, reliably gives 3-6bhp for £130 and it's DIYable for the mechanically competent. And Johnnyrod's right, ignition advancer's a good cheap mod, doesn't do a heck of a lot for peak power but does give a midrange boost and a lot of extra torque earlier on- brilliant for real world riding, one of my favourite tweaks. All just IMHO of course, hopefully someone'll come along with some actual dyno work. Personally I got 69.5bhp at the rear wheel with the Rene airkit and a CCC road legal slipon, you could probably do a little better than that-that was a 2bhp step up from my stock figure.

I started with a stock bike, 66 BHP. Added a Hi-level zorstec, 69.6 BHP, but was told it was running lean.
Tried various things, de-snorkeling filter etc. Worthless mods. Fitted old stage 1 kit with new version K&N, 138DJ mains. Nicely improved throttle response, fatter mid range and yes the difference is noticable at first, couple of weeks later you'll forget what it was like before the mods. I just followed the dynojet instructions. I used dyno runs as proof I had done it right, £10- a run so £30- for all 3 runs. I used Ultimate performance in Addlington, bought my K&N filter there also. |

cheers for that lads it gives me something to think about. Like Mark my main concern is running too lean n causing problems. I'm happy with the performance and sound. How much is the dynojet if i DIY Mark.
