Does anyone know if there are restrictions on any of the types of motorcycle licence you get in Oz? Ive looked it up but theres no mention of the size of engine.
I know this is mostly a uk forum, just thought id ask on the off chance. Cheers. |

Yes, but just to be confusing, as a result of the different Australian states being formerly separate British colonies, there are different regulations in different states. Some (Victoria) require new licence holders to ride <250 cc for 12 months, others like Qld and NSW have a power to weight formula for the probationary period.
Better to go to the Road Traffic Authority website in the state you're interested in or post the question on svdownunder.com. HTH |

thanks for the reply.
I'm moving to Australia in a few months time, it looks like we will be going to sydney first as the agency we are with says there is the most work there. I see your from Melbourne, what are the main differences between the two cities? Many thanks . |

Sydney: slightly bigger, brasher, more aggressive in both productive and destructive sense, more violence, more inequality, bigger salaries at the top, more expensive to live in, lots of cockroaches, funnelweb spiders (deadly) tends to see itself as centre of Oz economically, culturally and dynamically, in some ways the London of Oz, if that makes sense.
Melbourne a bit out of the perceived loop, gentler, considers itself more European, refined than Sydney, more into fashion, food, wine, cafe-life. Less humid and hot, but more grey days, but we're not talking UK here. Redback spiders here (deadly) few cockroaches. You would enjoy either. Petetong moved to Sydney about a year ago from UK and posted some pics of his SP2 in Galleries which show some Sydney sun and sea. He may still be in the forum for his viewpoint as well. |
