Default Trashed Bike

I just saw my mate lose it down Rotherham coming out of a roundabout. It was a stupid thing to do due to cold tyres and all but it has seriously dented my confidence even though it wasn't me riding.
I have never seen anyone lose control of their bike let alone happen right in front of me. I have been riding bikes for 7 years and I have never once dropped a bike.
I don't have much confidence in the Dunlop tyres that I have on so can someone recommend a tyre with a lot more grip than the standard Dunlops. Hopefully it will make me a bit more confident.

It's not pleasant losing control, but I found after my offs I learnt some important lessons, and even learnt where the limits are.
Scroll down to the tyres section for the recommendations, though current favourites are Metz Z6 and the Conti road attacks.
I've tried the road attacks, and they're very good. There are also very good reviews of the Z6.
Avon have just released the Vipers, which are supposed to be pretty good, but nobody here has tried them yet. I will probably be putting a pair on at the end of this month, since my 9.5k road attack front is very nearly shagged.

My mate is ok but did say that his biking days are over. I don't buy that because the last thing he said to me before he went around the roundabout was how much he loves riding a bike. You can't change your mind that quickly. I'm sure he will be back on the bike again.

I've been lucky in that eveyone I've seen crash has just got right back up with minimum damage... But I think it must be worse to see a friend crash than to do it yourself.

As for tyres, don't fool yourself into buying the softest rubber you can find, really soft compounds tend to be less effective on the road than more road-oriented compounds, since they reach the proper heat and stay there better. Try getting a Rennsport up to full temp on a daily commute in the rain I'd go with Carsick's recommendations, I love the Z6s. Better day to day than the Sportecs I had on before on all counts.

Sorry about your mate hope its just his pride and the bike thats dented

As for tyres, currently I am running Pirrelli diablo's and ame very very happy with them, they are happy to be taken to the edge and inspire massive confidence heating up very quickly.

Now I don't know if you can get them for the SV mine are on a VFR but if you can I highly recommend them

Even though it happened right in front of me it all happened so quick. I just saw his ZX 6R been thrown around like a toy. I can't remember but i'm sure it flipped, both sides of the fairing are damaged, it took out a street sign and hit the curb. Big hole in the crank case, oil pis*sing out. The next thing my mate is sliding down the road. I feel kind of responsible, I was talking to him about my tyres, i.e no confidence. Then he was telling me about his metz and how much confidence he has in them. He use to have a curvy SV and he never had problems with roundabouts before.

He took out a street sign? I take it he wasn't going too slowly then? I hope he gets back on a bike soon, its a shame if he stops riding just because of one incident.

As far as your confidence goes, just take things easy and it will return.
