Default Indicator troubles

Hey everyone,
bought a 2000 candy blue sv650s last week, and been having great fun with it.

But I've got a problem and was wondering if you could help me out....

Every now and then, the indicators won't work. I'll push the button in every direction and nothing! But if I wait a few minutes they'll usually work.

The first day it happened once, the second it happened twice, and now it's happening every other time I use them. I've sprayed a little wd40 in the switch, but it didn't help.

I don't know if there's an electrical fault, cos the dash stopped working today. the fuse had gone.

anybody have any ideas?

cheers

Are they original or replacements, as you'll need to check all the connections. Failing that it could be your relay is on it way out. They do go, the after market ones are cack, so get a original.

they're originals,

also I forgot to mention, when I tried using them at night (when they didn't work) the other day, the headlights dimmed.

thanks for the quick reply

Sounds like you have a bad earth somewhere, do you have access to a SV wiring diagram? You might want to give everything a good clean up.

look at the wiring loom under the seat and as far round the bike as you can see it, check for cut or worn insulation where it has been rubbing on the frame

That would cause the fault and the fust to blow.

sounds like the switch wire is cut and when the handle bars are in a certain position the cable is connected, if that maks any sence

well, I think I got it,

One of the indicator cables had been rubbing against the front left fairing, and there was some exposed wire,

does this sound like the culprit?

I'll prob find out tomo' when I take her out

that sounds very much like the problem.

Check that non of the copper strands have snapped and tape it back up with insulation tape.

If a lot of the copper strands have snapped you will need a new cable (by a lot i mean 1/3 of them are snapped)
