backfiring.

I have a 00 SVS, with an ART race can on it, I have my test today so i put a db killer in the can and since i did it's been backfiring like crazy at idle, running quite hot, and the exhaust gases smell very petroly.

There's not a lot i can do to it today as my test is at 3, but i'll be trying to sort it out tomorrow. Anyone got any suggestions. I'll be taking out the dB kiler but it was backfiring a lot before i fitted it, i think it just made the pops more audible.
will new plugs/airfilter and a carb balance sort it out?

A carb balance/tune should work as its your fuel mix is to rich, thus any spare fuel is burning out your can... you might not get it perfect, but you should be able to get it better. When I put my ART can on mine it pops a bit (mainly when rolling heavly off the trottle), but then the normal tuning is set up for my Road Remus.

Don't you have the orginal can?

Nope, only bought it last month, last owner got it with the ART can on and no original.

Well anyone correct my if I'm wrong but I was under the impression you can't sell someone a road bike without a 'road legal' can. You sure the last owner was not just trying it so they could try to sell the road can and make some extra money...

I got it for a song so i'm not complaining, its also very unlikely that any such law would be enforced in any way here in ireland, I know the previous owner and he didnt have the original, maybe he got screwed when he bought it.

You can sell your bike without a legal can... as long as the person buying is aware that it is not road legal....
