Default Wheel spins in neutral?

Hello all!

This may sound like a stupid question, but here goes anyway!

I had the bike up on its paddock stand yesterday while I was loooobing the chain. I wanted to make sure the Scottoiler was working so I started the engine. And the back wheel started to slowly spin around...

Pulling the clutch in stopped it, but it threw me. Is this expected?

Bit of a noob question - apoplogies!

Andy.

When you say spin, do you actually mean that the engine was driving it?
The vibrations through the bike can easily cause the wheel to turn when there is very little resistance to the motion. Pulling the clutch in can just as easily change the vibrations and stop it spinning.

It's just a bit of drag in the transmission. You should be able to stop it with your hand.

Or that.
I wasn't going to suggest you try stopping it with your hand, cos I don't want the blame for that accident if I'm utterly wrong.
Btw, mine will gently spin in neutral on a stand.

Mine does it too, nothing to worry about I suggest. If however it does a couple of hundred RPM then maybe your clutch needs adjusting .

He's right you know.

It's nothing to do with the clutch adjustment though, engaged or disengaged there's often enough drag twixt various clutch and gearbox bits to rotate the wheel, when the engine is hot and the oil thinned a bit the effect is often reduced or eliminated.

I'm sure you're right, I wouldn't wish to argue with the oracle. However ( ), when my bike's clutch was slipping badly and dreadfully adjusted, when it was on the paddock stand and in neutral the rear wheel most definitely was doing a couple of hundred RPM, which was most unnerving (corrected of course by your own very capable hands).
