I think my SV has an oil problem.
Whenever I do a couple of wheelies or Endos my oil level depletes. I normally don't worry about things like oil level since my bike doesn't leak oil and the exhaust is clean, Why then am I losing oil? Is it something to do with the engine configuration (pistion orientation) and the extreme angles the bike is subjected to through doing wheelies and endos? If so it must also be affected by lean angle right? I can get my footpeg down on the tarmac, is this safe for the engine? HELP!! I've already lost one engine due to oil starvation and am not going to go through it again! |

you should not wheelie or stoppie an sv cos you will cause oil starvation as you say & that equals a new engine.
so the answer is an sv is not built for stunts & if you do them expect to have problems, this may sound harsh but its the truth |

Lean angle isn't a problem as the oil is kept in the sump by centrifugal force acting down through the bike opposing the turning force, (produced at the tyres), holding you in to the turn.

Sounds like I am patronising but maybe your not checking the oil level correctly. I only say this as I find it incredibly hard to believe that you are losing oil as you say you are when there is no visible evidence of this.
I assume that when you check the oil you are not doing so with the bike on lent on the side stand or when the engine is running (or both) ![]() ![]() There is nowhere that the oil can go and hide. Stop the bike and the oil will always drop back down to the sump. The only way that you could lose oil the way I think you are trying to explain is out of the engine completely. The only place for it to go is either all over the bike from the oil filler or all over the floor via the sump plug. I'm sure if you had a leak you would have found evidence of this by now. |

Well, it could be going either up the crank breathers, or past the pistons, then getting burned up, surely?. Wouldn't neccesarily be obvious with the exhaust.

I think it's mainly a holdover from the recall on early SVs which did sufffer severe oil starvation under "rapid, sharp acceleration" ie wheelies, no? But latermodels got a modified baffle plate or some such which prevents it.
