Default Do I ride the rev range wrongly?

Hi folks I have a 1999 Curvy thats 33BHP restricted.

Edit: Ohh by the way, Its sprockets are set up like the naked model.

When cruising (ie not going for it) I tend to be in whatever gear is just above 3k revs for the speed. I tend to gear up before 5k revs aswell.

When really going for it I choose a lower gear and stay at about 6k revs gearing up at 9kish and down at 4kish. Obviously I don't watch the rev meter and gear up and down by it, I just do what feels/sounds right. However this is the pattern i've noticed myself doing.

I was wondering if the cruising bit is wrong of me because sometimes I do notice that if im at 3k revs and have to slow a little i'll stay in the same gear when I speed up again, which at 2.8ishk revs tends to labour the engine slightly but I don't do that too often.

I've tried being in a lower gear (such as 3rd at 30mph rather then being in 4th) and somehow it doesn't feel right cruising at 5k revs. Is this something I should be doing though and get used to it?

Many thanks.

Basically, you should be in a gear that gives you the go you need without screaming or labouring the engine.
It sounds like you ride a little lower than I would personally aim for.
Something to bear in mind is the fact that really, you don't have full control if the bike won't go when you need it to.

Same here - I like to change up at around 6-7000rpm in normal riding and up to 8-9000rpm when going for it, dont see the need to eek every last rpm up to the redline...

I find 3K is too low to have any real pull. Around 5K is more comfortable for bimbling.

I rarely redline it as it runs out of grunt a bit before I reach it. It also tends to give you a brown trouser moment if you are overtaking at the time.

I tend to hover around 8-10k... then go up to 14k when i'm going for it.

I ride like a tit too!

Bugger wrong bike .

SV you should keep the rev's above 5k really. Keeps the oil flowing nicely and leaves you with plenty of engine braking and tons of torque to wipe the smile of cocky chav faces
