Rear Brake Pad Life - SV650.org

I have jusy had to replace my rear pads after 4000 miles. They were completely worn away. This feels a little excessive. I wondered what other people achieve?

Consciously I do most of my braking with the front brakes. I do use the rear brakes for low speed manouvering, and I probably do this quite a lot when low speed filtering. With a daily commute through central London, I do quite a lot of this.

They must be binding badly to cause that amount of wear if you're front brake biased. The caliper is probably seized.

Mine did that too, Im a front braker but had my rear pads replaced at the second service, the replacements have been in for 10.000 and still look new!

I think it was a seized or sticking piston

7000 miles on mine and they're hardly scuffed at all. Ditto to all the above.

Have original pads at 8500 miles, just about to give up the ghost but I do use the rear quite alot!

I had to replace a damaged pair at 11000, still on the second set... And I use the rear pretty much constantly (the first 9000 miles on the first set weren't mine though)

Does the rear brake get very hot?That would indicate a sticking caliper,but the other possibility is a worn disc.If your disc has ruts or grooves in it it will eat pads very quickly.

28,000 miles on the original pads.

28,000 miles and just about to put in my fifth set of rear pads. Oh and I er still have a couple of thousand left on the original fronts
