Riding home today and I notice my speedo isn't working. That'll be the famous sv speedo sensor disintegrating then. This really is not good enough on Suzuki's part. I replaced it in the spring and it's died again already... Grrrrrrrrrrr

If its less than a year old you should be able to get a replacement under warranty.
At the very least you have a fittness for purpose arguement. I would give it a try - you have nothing to lose! |

I'm going to write to Suzuki as this is obviously not an isolated problem. I'm just fed up with little components failing and letting down an otherwise great bike...

To be fair, they mostly seem to get damaged in fitment, and they're a deliberately sacrificial part- they break so your whel or drive don't. Small consolation I know. Mine is hanging on by one tooth

Be fair, if the wheel is refitted with the proper care speedo drive won't be broken, for example I'm a total klutz and I've never broken an SV speedo drive, just takes doing it right.
Note, I'm not suggesting that you broke it, but something did, it won't break spontaneously.

if it is that easy to fit badly so it breaks the thing then it is a flaw. I never fitted either of mine so can't comment on the process but it would seem too easy to fit incorrectly without noticing.

Like I say, it's sacrificial protection. If it goes together wrong something's got to give, you'd rather it was the speedo rotor than the wheel or speedo drive. It's not as though there's an epidemic of the things breaking- and the majority that do, can reasonably be put down to mishandling. (not saying they all are, or that yours were, of course)
Still, if it was fitted professionally you've got a good recourse to the dealer.
