I have a renttec rack to which i can attach one of those waterproof dry bags people use when they go sailing or in the wilderness etc. The rack has a grab rail built in as it replaces your original. Look em up

I have a set of Oxford Sports panniers and the misses doesn't seem to have any comfort issues.

i've got both of the above but not used them together yet.

which race?

i used to ride to leeds (from preston) with my panniers on and a helmet and jacket for her, and the bring her back from uni on some weekends

she didn't mind too much but i was a bit of a squeeze but you get used to it, just remember to take breaks are they get tired/scrunched up more than we do

where you from (stick it in your profile so we can all see)

Just get talking to someone there and you should be able to find someone who is willing to have your bike chained to theirs/their car.
