Just a quickie, If my Speedo and Odometor dont work but the rev counter does is it most likely the speedo cable or does that effect the rev counter as well?
01 SV650 (go faster stripe yellow) BTW I checked the cable connections for the electronics under the tank but they seem fine |

Rev counter is driven from the front spark plug on the curvies, the odo is driven from the front wheel.

I would think its the speedo sensor / drive on the front wheel itself, these seem to be very fragile.
Have you had the front wheel out recently for anything ? if so the speedo sensor can get damaged when you replace the wheel. When my speedo stopped working it was also accompanied by a squealing or sqeaking coming from the speedo drive. HTH

Is it faired or un-faired model? The faired model speedo sensor is on the front wheel spindle, but the un-faired model sensor is on the gearbox by the front sprocket.

All 650 speedos, (AKA SV Lite), are driven from the front wheel, all 1000s, (proper SVs), have the speedo driven from a pickup by the front sprocket. The tacho is electronic and is triggered by the switching of the front coil.

Mine failed, firstly the needle would fly all over the place then it wouldn't read at all. It turned out to be a broken wire, but other people have had failures caused by a bad connection. If you lift the front of the tank and follow the cable up from the sensor in the front wheel there is a connecto. Separate this carefully ( my broken wire was here caused most likely by previous owner pulling on the cable to part it) then clean up the contacts and grease. There's a good chance that will cure your problem. You can test the sensor at this connection point but you need a voltmeter and 1kohm resistor and 6v battery to do so. Hope this helps.
