Default BSB - Oulton Park - Camping.

Well I had a good weekend camping out at the weekend, thoroughly enjoyed my drinking/bbq'ing on the nights, with some top notch racing yesterday.

But,,,,, did anyone else notice the complete farce/shambles that was the organisation of the camping ????????????

I got there about 1.30pm on Saturday armed with my pre-paid for weekend camping pass and got my ultra snazzy yellow wrist band "TO BE WORN AT ALL TIMES OTHERWISE YOU WONT GET INTO THE CAMPSITE" - exact words of the ticket man on the gate. However I didn't have a ticket as my mate sponsors GEARLINK in the supersport 600's (Guy Sanders & James Hillier - finished 4th!!! and 12th respectively) and I was to pick up my ticket on arrival and as the team were out on the track at the time had to wait a bit, so jobsworth at the gate said I couldn't get in until the team brought me my ticket, despite the fact that I had all the camping vouchers.

Anyway I eventually got my ticket, got in, pitched tent and PROUDLY wore my yellow wrist band for about an hour until it fell off, never to be seen again.

But throughout the weekend there was absolutely no enforcement of the campsite rules whatsoever, I noticed some people arrive on Saturday with some odd tent shaped items strapped to their bikes/in the boot of the car, and when asked if they were camping replied "OH NO WE'RE JUST HERE FOR THE DAY HONESTLY !!!!!!!", get in then walk around to LOdge corner and promptly pitch tent, returning later on with the usual bag of clothes, beer, bbq, beer, food, beer, beer, beer, you get my drift.

At no time from Sat through to leaving on Monday was I stopped, asked for my camping pass etc, and noticed that the so called secure campsite was an open free for all, anyone can just walk in, so why the hell was there all this make sure you wear your wrist band which we were charged £15 each for when no-one was there to check up on it, why was there no security at all for the secure campsite, why was it so easy for people to just pull up and pitch tents without paying.

Not only that but on Sunday night there were people revving the ar*e off their bikes from about 11pm throught to the early hours, indeed one of my friends who was there in her caravan with her kids commented on the kids being awake at 4AM!!!!!!!! because of the bikes, people shouting out to the marshalls why don't you do something about this, for the marshalls all to just walk away to the OPPOSITE end of the campsite to where the noise is.

My friend knows some of the top riders and is a top rider herself (CBR600RR - qualified advanced biking instructor etc) and found out that some of the racers had to park their sleeping vans in the public campsite because there was no room in the paddock, and they too were kept awake the night before the race by these morons, (showing respect for the racers you have paid lots of money to come and watch ???? - me thinks not).

I know that the Police were called at 4am (dunno whether they actually attended), but that coupled with the complaints the affected race teams were allegedly going to lodge with the organisers could result in future penalties for us race fans - ie no camping at all, at future events.

Sorry if this sounds like a big soap box whinge - don't get me wrong I love nothing better than to camp out with loads of beer for the weekend and have a good time, but we at least try to show some respect for the others using the campsites.

You'd probably get a response if you went onto the Motorsport Vision website with your complaints as they are the owners of the circuit. I know from another forum I frequent that you are not the only person with that issue.

lol this brings back memories. camped at oulton a few years ago and had a drunken **** in the tent behind revving the nuts of his bike whilst drunk. security came round on a quad bike after lots of complaints and the guy shouted about it being a bike meet and not an f ing kindergarden. he eventually shut up, presuming his pals beat him senseless and hid his keys. did spoil things

Hope by marshalls you mean MSV staff and are not moaning at the boys and girls in orange who have no more authority than you on a camp site. And as for being at the opposite end of the campsite to the noise then good, those guys have to be alert from the moment they sign on to the end of racing no chance of 40 winks between races.

Sorry, by marshalls I meant those who "police" and security the race course and camping area and NOT those fantastic people who sit at the corners in their bright orange boiler suits next to the track, ready to run to the assistance of a rider who bins it. They are heroes and heroines through and through who do a sterling job.
