Default Question for the Spannerman.

Quick question for you. As you know I was thinking of getting my front forks upgraded in Feb. Is there anyway for me tell if this has already been done. I dont really want to get you to order the parts only to find out its been done already.

Since this is my first large bike, I have no point of reference. The only thing I do know is that she does bottom out (clonk) over bigger than average bumps, which I know a few people have commented about on here.

From what i remember, they all do that and its nowt to do with bottoming out. The forks have to dip quite a long way to bottom out. I think its mentioned on SV rider or something.

As jimbo said, you'd have to give quite a big thing a reet good clout to bottom out the forks. Try changing the fork oil for a heavier weight

sorry dont mean bottoming out I mean full extension to clonk as it where so as you go ever a bump the forks reach the there longest and clonk as the wheel trys to stay on the ground. Hope I making myself clear here

Ah right, I see what you mean, I haven't heard anything about this before, but I'm sure the more knowledgable ones will have an answer

Tah wheel nut, but what I was after was if they do this clonk after you up rate the springs and oil. The reason I ask this was that Spannerman gave me a very good rate for doing this for me but he will obviously pre buy the springs, I dont want to get up there to find out that my springs have already been done. As the SV is my first "big" bike I have no frame of reference from riding to tell if they have been done or not. As far as Im aware there are no visible signs either?

Evening all.
Apologies for my abscence, but my blasted internet connection was up the pictures AGAIN!!! GRRRRR!!!!
Rog, if your forks are clonking at full extension, it's possible that you have loose headraces. This could be a case of adjustment or replacement as neccessary. Can't really say until I see the beast!
It's possible to remove one of the springs and check it's dimensions to ascertain as to whether it's an original or a replacement. FOC of course! (OUCH!!!)

If any of you folks require any advice it's really better to use the good old telephone, as it's more reliable than this new fangled CRAP!!

Cheers.

Afetrnoon.
Just tried it myself, it did load after a while!.....That's the trouble with being a mechanical type, the host was recommended to me by someone alledgedly in the know, and knowing no differently I took their advice, and as you've found out IT'S CRAP!! (as is the site itself)
I have a better site that I'm building when I can find the time, now all I need is a decent host and it should be more accessable.
It's much better to pop in and have a cuppa and banter!

Cheers.
