A friend of mine bought a monster 600 last year and likes it a lot. The best thing to do is to get a test ride on them both and see which one you prefer. The riding positions are very different so one style might suit you more than the other. I used to have a SVS but the riding position didn't suit me at all, but the raptor I have now suits me perfectly. Good luck!

The Monster 600 is a great bike, but next to an SV it lacks in durability, (yeah, really, the paint falls off even easier than the paint Suzuki use), and power. The Monster handles very well and the brakes are great, it scores in looks and generally being a Ducati and thus having a certain aura of cool about it of course.

Try one you might like it, I'd say the decision to buy or not should be greatly based upon the use to which you'll put the bike - I'd hesistate to suggest that it's an all year round commuter, unless you are obsessive about keeping it clean that is, 'cos the finish really is easy to lose.

Exactly the same position I was in last year when deciding which one to buy, the Monster or the SV.

In the end the price and more so the servicing costs put me off the Monster and I discovered the SV, really liked the looks the cost and all the positive feedback from owners and mags alike.

In the end, its up to you.
Good luck with your decision.

My mate has a 600 monster - the bars are wider and its more of a "racier" seating position than my naked K1. Only revs to 8000 which might sound ok but when you are raggin it I found I keep running out of revs! Oh and the gearbox is total sh!te!

Personally I would take my SV over it anyday....

Looks cool tho!

I had a similar choice about 2 years ago, the confusion lasted for about a week and then I thought about:
Reliability
Wiring
Turning circle
servicing cost
Power
Looks
Price
and..handling
The SV won on all the above according to my research, and as a new rider, I REALLY didn'y want to be dropping in the dealers car park because it's impossible to turn corners without 'paddling' like an idjut.
Forget that Ducati 'Cool', unless you want a proper one........get an SV
