am stupid (brakes) - SV650.org

em i have a problem i think

i took my front calipers off my curvy bike so i could clean my front forks cause the salt was getting to them any

i was taking to my mate and with out realising i pulled the front brake as soon as i done it knew there could be a prob

do i just try and prise them open again or what they are not completly closed still enough to get a flat screwdriver in to i think

any help would be great

Yes you need to get something in there to lever the pistons back in. It would be wise to remove the pads as they could crack it you lever on them with a bar of some sort. With the pads removed use a piece of wood across the back of the caliper and bar against that.
I think some people use a G-clamp to do this.

The above is good advice, and if there's any resistance to pushing the pistons back you'd be well advised to take it. However, if you use a wide bladed lever/screwdriver you should be able to push the pads apart without any further dismantling, as long as you're careful not to damage the pads it'll be fine.

When using a flat bladed screwdriver to push the pads and pistons back don't go too far as you'll start forcing dirt and rubbish back past the dust seals in the caliper.

lol yer i did the same thing yesterday but it was the back caliper, any way is used a screwdriver to prise it open with the pads in

but still got it in so it was ok

DO NOT use the discs as something to lever against.... I did that on my kwak, and I suspect thats what caused one of the discs to warp... and fork out £200 to replace ONE disc
