California has stringent emission requirements, and all vehicles sold there must adhere to them.
The SV650 has a variant made especially for this specification, I believe it is known as the E33 model. This has a fuel evaporation system... I'm not sure exactly what it does, but I think it ensures petrol fumes aren't allowed to evaoporate freely into the atmosphere. It sounds like it only affects the extra hardware associated with this model.

I am pretty sure this is the exact failure my SV tank had - James at JHS has also had it.
Under the fuel cap, there is a small hole in the rim which has a pipe welded to it from inside the tank. This hole is used to allow overflow from the tank, or water which has got inside the cap recess, to flow down through the tank and out the bottom. My cracked, allowing fuel to gush out the tank at the cap under breaking - very very dangerous. Nonetheless I don't think that Suzuki UK will ever issue a recall on it, no matter how dangerous it is. The US is a completely different place (and not necessarily better) |

With the sunny state models, there is a carbon filter that is supposed to trap any fuel vapour so it is not released to the environment, maybe they used the coupling as a drain in the UK?
Possibly, because would California really need a water drain? doubtful. ![]() Maybe worth trying to get a parts fiche of both models then if it's the ame part try arguing with Suzuki/dealer, just don't hold your breath
